Kanan Shuttle
The Kanan Shuttle is the free, practical way to travel to neighborhood schools and residential areas near Kanan Rd. in Oak Park and Agoura Hills.
Riders can transfer to Metro Route 161 and LADOT Commuter Express buses at the Thousand Oaks Blvd., Canwood Rd., and Roadside Dr. bus stops for service to surrounding communities. Our shuttles are powered by clean burning natural gas, equipped with security cameras for your safety and bike racks for your convenience. All buses are ADA-compliant.
The Kanan Shuttle serves Oak Park High School, Medea Creek Middle School, and the residential areas near Kanan Road.
The Kanan Shuttle service is provided by the County of Ventura in partnership with the City of Agoura Hills, Oak Park Unified School District, and the Oak Park County Service Area #4. It is operated by the City of Thousand Oaks.
Bicycles
Vehicles are equipped with bicycle racks (available on a first-come, first-available basis). For safety reasons, bikes cannot be transported inside the buses.
Rules and Passenger Conduct
The Kanan Shuttle is a free community service. We will not provide service to passengers who engage in the behaviors listed below. Riders who do not follow this code will be subject to suspension of riding privileges, citation, or arrest.
- Bullying or roughhousing on the shuttle or at bus stops
- Threats of harm, assault, or battery to a driver or passenger
- Verbal abuse or harassment, including the use of profanity, intimidation, or altercation with a driver or passenger
- Failure to maintain reasonable personal hygiene, which may expose drivers and passengers to health/safety risks
- Failure to obey a driver’s lawful instructions
- Causing damage to the vehicle
- Repeated violations of riding rules
- Criminal conduct prohibited by the California Penal Code
The following are never permitted on the Kanan Shuttle:
- Open food and beverage containers
- Strollers, walkers, shopping carts, or oversized items that may block aisles, take up seats, or that a passenger cannot carry, fold, and stow
- Items too numerous to be controlled, carried, or handled by a passenger
- Firearms, weapons, or hazardous materials
To keep everyone’s Kanan Shuttle experience pleasant, please observe the following:
- Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes, is not permitted on-board or within 25 feet of any bus stop
- Headphones must be used with electronic devices that transmit sound - the volume must not disturb other passengers
- Remain seated at all times
- Minimize conversations with the driver
- Hold small children securely
- Anything brought on board must remain in your possession and out of aisles at all times
- Non-service animals may be transported on the bus only in a Department of Transportation approved animal carrier that is placed on the passenger’s lap
Children under the age of six are not permitted to ride the shuttle alone. If a driver suspects a child is under the age of six or appears to lack the cognitive ability (regardless of age) to use the bus to reach their destination, the child will be denied boarding.
Lost and Found
Items found on the bus will be turned in to the administrative office at the City Transportation Center as soon as the bus makes a stop there. For buses that do not stop at the City Transportation Center, items found will be turned in no later than 7:00 a.m. the next day.
