Sustainability
The Sustainability Division of the Public Works Department leads City efforts to protect natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and advance a sustainable and resilient community. The Division develops and manages programs related to solid and hazardous waste, recycling and organics, energy efficiency and building decarbonization, water conservation, clean transportation and EV infrastructure, renewable energy, and climate resilience.
The Division also leads implementation of the City’s Climate and Environmental Action Plan (CEAP), tracks progress toward climate and sustainability goals, and coordinates clean energy programs with utilities, the Clean Power Alliance, and regional partners. Through policies, programs, grants, and community outreach, the Division works with residents, businesses, and City departments to conserve resources, reduce emissions, and support a cleaner, more sustainable Thousand Oaks.
