Storm Drains
Storm drains are essential for preventing flooding, but they do not treat water before it flows into creeks, and eventually the ocean. The City, guided by the Federal Clean Water Act, works to minimize pollution in our storm drain systems.
City ordinance prohibits dumping anything other than clean water into storm drains. Construction sites and facilities must also manage pollution effectively.
You can help prevent stormwater pollution with these easy steps:
- Avoid dumping litter or waste in streets or storm drains.
- Keep yard waste and leaves out of the street.
- Dispose of household chemicals properly. You can do this by making an appointment to drop off your chemicals at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
- Pick up after pets and dispose of waste correctly.
- Sweep driveways and sidewalks instead of hosing them down.
