The City is dedicated to providing you with a dependable supply of high-quality water and wastewater treatment for residents.

Water

The Public Works Department distributes up to 15 million gallons of water each day to more than 17,000 residences and businesses. The City is one of three water purveyors in the City.

Our mission is to provide high-quality water that meets or exceeds the water quality standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the State Water Resources Control Board.

Water Quality:

To ensure that tap water is safe to drink, the California Department of Health Services (DHS) prescribes regulations that limit the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. The quality of our drinking water currently meets all State requirements for safe water. Please see the link below to access the most current Annual Water Quality Report for Thousand Oaks:

Urban Water Management Planning:

The State of California requires that all urban water suppliers within the state prepare an Urban Water Management Plan, which aims for suppliers to describe their long-term resource planning, and ensure adequate water supplies to help identify existing and future water demands are achieved. The UWMP is prepared every five years, and can be found below:

Wastewater

The City processes over 8 million gallons of wastewater per day for the City of Thousand Oaks at the Hill Canyon Treatment Plant. Incoming wastewater is treated to an advanced tertiary level, which renders it suitable for unrestricted reuse. After receiving advanced tertiary treatment, effluent is discharged into the Arroyo Conejo Creek, which then flows into the Calleguas Creek.
