Public safety services provided through the Ventura County Sheriff

The Police Department’s mission is to protect the lives and property of Thousand Oaks residents and address public concerns in ways that foster safe, crime-free neighborhoods. Since the City’s incorporation in 1964, Thousand Oaks has partnered with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office to provide law enforcement services. As Thousand Oaks has grown into a vibrant, well-planned community, the Police Department remains committed to strengthening its trusted relationship with residents, schools, and businesses. With 93 sworn officers and 108 total employees, the Department employs proactive strategies and prevention programs to ensure public safety.

The Public Works Department's mission is to provide quality, responsive services that directly support the safety, sustainability, and livability of Thousand Oaks. Through expert engineering, maintenance, operations, and administration, guided by integrity, customer service, and environmental responsibility, the Department manages essential infrastructure, utilities, and transportation systems with innovation, cost-efficiency, and long-term planning to enhance the community’s quality of life.

The Community Development Department’s mission is to guide responsible growth and land use while protecting the health, safety, and character of Thousand Oaks. Through balanced planning, code enforcement, and housing programs, the Department ensures that development aligns with community values, environmental resources, and long-term sustainability.
