Paving FAQ

Street slurry happens in multiple stages.

The contractor will first treat the pavement areas for weeds. There are no driving/parking restrictions for this process.

Crack sealing will then be performed, during which the contractor seals the majority of the street's cracks. Parking will be restricted for this process, but street access will be maintained.

The slurry seal coat is then applied; during this time, your street will be closed to driving and parking access from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note that the slurry is first applied, then cured, and rolled a few hours later for the final finish.

The street will be opened shortly after rolling is completed.

Street overlay happens in multiple stages.

The contractor will start by milling/grinding a portion of the street and applying a tack coat.

They will then overlay portions with new asphalt pavement. There are partial closures with segmented access to your street.

The contractor works as quickly as they can to reopen driving access, but typical street closures are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the day of paving.

Marks from tires are normal on fresh pavement. These tire marks typically iron out after 30-45 days.

The City coordinates with Athens to ensure your trash service is not interrupted. Please place your trash cans out as scheduled (the night before or by 6 am on the day of). Athens will do an early pick-up before paving begins. Please contact Athens Services at (833) 791-2377 with any questions.

Your mail service will not be interrupted, but delivery times may be delayed on the day your street is closed. Packages can still be delivered but may also be delayed as street access will be restricted.

Notifications are typically provided by the contractor 7-10 days in advance. Additionally, “No Parking / No Driving” signs will be posted 48-72 hours prior to any scheduled street closure within the affected area.
