THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., March 11, 2025- The City of Thousand Oaks is starting the process of updating Title 9 of the zoning code, a key component of implementing the recently adopted General Plan. This comprehensive update aims to modernize regulations and ensure the city's future development aligns with the goals and policies outlined in the General Plan. The public is invited to actively participate in shaping the future of Thousand Oaks through this vital process.
The zoning code, a set of regulations governing land use and development, plays a crucial role in determining the types of buildings, businesses, and activities allowed in different city areas.
Key objectives of the zoning code update include:
- Aligning with the General Plan: Ensuring consistency with the goals and policies established in the recently adopted General Plan.
- Modernizing regulations: Updating outdated codes to reflect current best practices, ensure regulations adhere to State law, and address emerging challenges.
- Improving clarity and usability: Simplifying the zoning code to make it more accessible and user-friendly for residents, businesses, and developers.
- Update the Sign Code: Identify deficiencies in the current sign regulations.
- Zoning Map Updates: Aligning parcel’s zoning with adopted land use designations.
The City of Thousand Oaks is committed to engaging the public throughout the zoning code update process. Residents, business owners, and other stakeholders will have multiple opportunities to provide input through:
- Public workshops and meetings: Interactive sessions to discuss specific zoning topics and gather community feedback.
- Dedicated project page: A central information, updates, and resources hub.
The first public workshop is scheduled for March 19th at 6:00 pm at the Civic Arts Plaza, 3rd Floor Oaks and Park Rooms. More information about the zoning code update, including upcoming meeting dates and opportunities for participation, can be found at toaks.gov/zoningcode.
