Printer Cartridges do not go into your recycling bin. If the cartridge you purchased did not come with a postage-paid bag or box, there are many other ways to make sure the cartridge does not end up in the landfill but gets recycled and reused instead. Listed below are various ways to donate or sell your printer cartridges:

  1. Drop them off at a big box office supply store. These businesses accept most toner and inkjet printer cartridges, and some offer a rewards program that offers store credit over time.
  2. This blog lists various ways to sell your printer cartridges.
  3. Some schools accept printer cartridges and use them to raise money for the school. Call the school first to inquire.
  4. An internet search will yield many results for online office supply stores that recycle printer cartridges. Upon request or setting up an account, they usually mail you a postage-paid envelope to mail the cartridge(s) back to them.
  5. You can also take them to the  City's Household Hazardous Waste Facility  on Fridays and Saturdays (except holiday weekends). However, appointments are required: click here to select a date and time.
  6. You can also refill your own cartridges. Most ink cartridges can be refilled with any type of store-bought refill kit, mainly injecting new ink into the cartridge with a syringe bottle. Some stores and vendors will refill them professionally to get the most ink back into the cartridge.
