HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH AT YOUR LIBRARY

Paint Workshop with Art Trek

Saturday, September 27 • 10:30 am – 1:00 pm • Newbury Park Library

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, join Art Trek for a guided painting workshop just for adults. No experience needed! All supplies provided. Space is limited. Registration required.


Live Classical Guitar with Andre Giraldo

Saturday, October 4 • 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm • GRBCommunity Room

Join us for an afternoon performance by classical guitarist Andre Giraldo. For all ages.


Sound Bath Healing with Raising Mami Alchemy

Saturday, October 11 • 11:00 am – 12:00 pm • NPL Art Gallery

A sound bath is a meditative experience where participants relax while listening to soothing, resonant sounds created by instruments like sound bowls, gongs, and chimes. Raising Mami Alchemy’s mission is to create a harmonious and nurturing bilingual space (English/Spanish) for families to thrive through the power of healing arts. Space is limited. Be sure to bring a yoga mat or blanket. This event is for teens 16+ and adults.


CLU Mariachi Ensemble

Sunday, October 26 • 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm • GRB Community Room

The Cal Lutheran Mariachi Ensemble, directed by Rocio Marron, will perform a selection of vibrant and emotive pieces that showcase the depth and energy of this beloved genre.


Hispanic Heritage Booklists

We’ve curated book lists for all ages to explore and celebrate Hispanic and Latinx histories, cultures, and diverse experiences. These selections provide educational resources and promote understanding. More programs are coming soon, so stay tuned!

Gosh Yarn It

Relax, crochet, and socialize at our crochet club! Beginners and experts alike are welcome to bring your own supplies and hang out with fellow crocheters as we sip tea and work on our projects. For ages 11+.


Maker Mondays: Fall

Monday, September 22 • 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm • GRB Teen Space

Stop by and choose a Fall-inspired design/experience using one or all of our ‘maker’ machines: Button maker, VR headset, 3D printer, and Cricut machine. For ages 11+.


American Patchwork Quartet Concert

Thursday, September 25 • 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm • Grant R. Brimhall Library

American Patchwork Quartet (APQ), led by multi-GRAMMY® award-winning guitarist/vocalist Clay Ross, binds timeless American folk songs with jazz sophistication, country twang, West African hypnotics, and East Asian ornamentation. APQ’s sound is a masterful confluence of tradition and innovation, transcending culture, politics, and ideology. Their debut was recently nominated for “Best Folk Album” at the 67th GRAMMY® Awards. Seating will be open and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Readers of all levels and abilities are invited to come and read to a certified therapy dog! Participants will sign up for a brief 10-minute session with a dog and their owner.

California Birthday Bear Craft

Stop by the Library on September 9th to celebrate California's 175th Anniversary by coloring a bear mask inspired by California’s state animal, the California Grizzly Bear.


Monarchs & Milkweed

Learn about the importance of milkweed in this butterfly-filled event. We’ll read My Life as a Monarch Butterfly by John Sazaklis and do a butterfly-themed craft. For ages 5+. While supplies last.


PACT with First 5 Ventura County

Join First 5 Ventura County for a series of classes that mimic the Parent and Child Together (PACT) classes offered at Neighborhoods for Learning sites for children prenatal to 5 years. Classes include books, songs, music and movement, guided play with open-ended materials, and parent education.

Planning to apply to college? Visit the Library for tips on creating your college list, researching schools, and navigating the application process. Get guidance and have your questions answered by a Cal Lutheran Admission Counselor. For students and parents preparing for college. Registration required.


Books for Buttons, Boba, or Burgers

Come to the Library and pick up a “Books for Buttons, Boba, or Burgers” form. Finish reading a book with more than 200 pages, submit to get a pin button, and enter for a chance to win a Boba or Burger gift card. Read more books for more chances to win. For ages 11-18.

Conversations with Mom

This free support group is for moms and their newborns to come together, express their joys and concerns, and meet other new moms in the community. Other caregivers, including fathers and grandparents, are welcome to attend the program on the last Tuesday of the month.

FallStory Slam: Story Submissions

Submissions due by Sunday, October 19th

Writers 18 and older are invited to submit a story based on the themes of change, gratitude, and/or origins. Stories must be submitted by Sunday, October 19th, at the Information Desk at either the Grant R. Brimhall or Newbury Park Libraries, or emailed to info@tolibrary.org with the subject heading “Story Slam.” Stories must be between 1,500-1800 words. The reading of the top 8 stories will be held in the Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room on Saturday, November 1st at 3:00 pm. All readers will be notified on Friday, October 24th.
