Lawn & Garden Equipment Exchange Event September 13th
August 20, 2025
Replace your old, noisy, gas-powered yard equipment and upgrade to cleaner, quieter electric equipment — with help from the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District (VCAPCD).
Summer may be winding down, but there’s still time to say goodbye to your old, noisy, gas-powered yard equipment and upgrade to cleaner, quieter electric equipment — with help from the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District (VCAPCD).
Why now? VCAPCD still has trade-in vouchers available for Ventura County residents who replace their gas-powered lawn and garden tools with zero-emission electric models.
Easier than ever. The City of Thousand Oaks and VCAPCD are hosting a one-day trade-in event:
Date: Saturday, September 13
Time: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Location: Household Hazardous Waste Facility
Address: 2010 Conejo Center Dr., Newbury Park
Bring your old, operable gas-powered equipment and complete the voucher application on-site. Once your equipment is turned in and destroyed, you’ll get a Certificate of Destruction and your voucher. Take both to any participating retailer to buy your new electric tools. Already submitted your application? You can still bring in your old equipment for destruction.
Voucher amounts:
Equipment Type | Voucher Amount |
Handheld Equipment | $300 |
Leaf Blowers/Vacuums | $200 |
Walk-Behind Mowers | $330 |
Stand/Sit Mowers | $2,000 |
The Lawn & Garden Equipment Exchange (L&GE) program also covers up to two batteries, a charging device, plus taxes and fees — as long as they’re purchased with the new equipment.
Program rules:
- You must currently own and operate gas or diesel landscaping equipment.
- The electric replacement must serve the same function (e.g., a gas blower for an electric blower).
- Equipment turned in must be started at the event to prove that it is in working condition.
- Purchases made before voucher approval are not eligible.
- New equipment must be purchased from a participating retailer.
- You must use your new electric equipment for at least 36 months.
