California Clean Air Day on October 2

September 2024. Did you know that California has 7 of the top 10 worst cities for air pollution? Do you want to help move California to a cleaner air future? If so, consider taking the Clean Air Day Pledgeon or before the 7^thAnnual California Clean Air Day on Wednesday, October 2^nd, 2024.

California Clean Air Daywas created by the Coalition for Clean Air (CCA). Established in 1971, CCA is California’s only statewide public interest organization exclusively advocating for improving air quality and preventing climate change.

California Clean Air Day was built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to action to improve our community health. Our purchasing habits, driving behaviors, and our relationship with food all contribute to our air quality.

The Clean Air Pledgeallows individuals and organizations to commit to doing their part to clean the air. Last year over 16,500 participants took the Clean Air Pledge resulting in approximately 125,000 actions to clear the air. There were 121 Clean Air Day events both virtually and physically, over 330 pledged companies and organizations, and 22 transit agencies that provided free rides on buses, trains, and bike share programs. Pledges can be both big or small including changing your air filter, eating vegan, sponsoring an event, or trying public transit for the day. In support of Clean Air Day, Thousand Oaks Transit is offering free bus fare on October 2^nd. Riders can travel free on all fixed routes in Thousand Oaks and Ventura County.

In addition to taking the Clean Air Pledge, there are a variety of events throughout California you can attend to show your support.

California Clean Air Day Events:

SLO CLIMATE COALITION EV SHOWCASE– September 26, 2024 | 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm | San Luis Obispo (SLO), CA. Visit the electric vehicle (EV) Showcase during National Drive Electric Week at SLO's Downtown Farmer's Market, chat with EV owners, check out the EVs on display and learn about rebates and incentives available to make EV ownership more accessible.

SANTA MARIA DOWNTOWN FRIDAYS EV SHOWCASE– September 27, 2024 | 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm | Santa Maria, CA. In addition to the farmers market, live music, local foods, produce, and craft vendors, come experience the EV Showcase and learn about the air quality benefits associated with transitioning to electric and other clean transportation options. See the display of EVs, talk to the vehicle's owners about the EV experience, and get informed about EV rebates and incentives, charging, and local air quality resources.

FIRE RESILIENT HOME AND GARDEN TOUR AND MAINTENANCE– September 28, 2024 | 10:00 am – 1:00 pm | Agoura Hills, CA. Join the Fire Resilient Home and Garden tour to experience home and garden choices that simultaneously protect Los Angeles’ air quality, homes, lives, habitats and beauty. The event organizers recommend wearing sturdy shoes, sunscreen and hats. Refreshments and tools will be provided.

SLO CLIMATE COALITION EV RIDE & DRIVE– September 28, 2024 | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm | San Luis Obispo, CA. EV owners are invited to show their vehicles. Attendees can test drive or ride in a number of vehicle makes and models. A few electric bicycles will also be available to test ride.

ISLA VISTA CLEAN AIR DAY– October 2, 2024 | 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm | Isla Vista, CA. The Clean Air Education Fair aims to raise awareness about local air quality issues, engage the community in clean air activities, and promote sustainable practices. This event will provide educational panels, hands-on activities, and resources to help residents understand and improve air quality in Isla Vista.

WALK AND ROLL KICKOFF– October 2, 2024 | 7:45 am – 8:15 am | Goleta, CA. The Brandon School is hosting a kick-off event to a year-long Walk and Roll program. Students will be encouraged to walk, bike, scooter, skateboard, or carpool to school each week. The event will have music, snacks, community members (Sheriff, city council members, etc.), and the school mascot.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE SHOWCASE AND CLEAN AIR DAY FAIR– October 3, 2024 | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm | Camarillo, CA. California State University Channel Island’s (CSUCI) first EV Showcase and Clean Air Day Fair. Talk to EV drivers and ask questions about their experience operating an EV and see a variety of different EV models. Community organizations and service providers will be on hand to answer your questions about charging options, rebates, electrical supply, and other clean air transportation options.

CLEAN AIR TEACH-IN AT THE PARK– October 5, 2024 | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm | Stevenson Ranch, CA. This event will serve as an outdoor educational panel on clean air and healthy environmental practices. There will be tables from various environmental groups informing participants about Clean Air Day.

FRESH AIR FAIR: RIDE GREEN, BREATHE CLEAN– October 6, 2024 | 10:00 am – 1:00 pm | Ventura, CA. Participate in fun activities, win prizes, and learn how to keep our air fresh—whether you are riding a bike, catching a bus, or just curious about cleaner air.
