After a nationwide search, the City of Thousand Oaks is pleased to announce Nader Heydari's appointment.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., April 7, 2025 - After a nationwide search, the City of Thousand Oaks is pleased to announce Nader Heydari's appointment as the new Public Works Director. During his 19-year career with the City, Nader has served as Associate Engineer, Senior Engineer, Engineering Division Manager, and most recently, as Deputy Public Works Director/City Engineer. Nader succeeds Public Works Director Cliff Finley, who has served in the role since 2020 and will be retiring in May. 


"Nader has a demonstrated history of delivering quality infrastructure projects for our City," said Andrew Powers, City Manager. "His deep understanding of our community and organization will allow him to lead the Public Works Department into its next chapter and execute an ambitious Capital Improvement program." 


During his tenure with the City, Nader has been responsible for several utility undergrounding projects, including the notable undergrounding of large power utilities along Thousand Oaks Boulevard. This past year, he led the effort to complete the Conejo Canyons Bridge, improving access to open space and the City's Hill Canyon Treatment Plant.  


In his new role, Nader will oversee the City's largest department and a budget of over $100 million. The Department of Public Works oversees many projects, from innovative engineering and efficient street systems to essential water, wastewater, and sustainability efforts. 


On the news of his appointment, Nader stated, "It is an incredible honor to serve as the next Public Works Director. I'm excited to build on the City's strong foundation of innovation, sustainability, and service excellence. I look forward to collaborating with our talented Public Works team to continue to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions that enhance the quality of life for our residents and businesses, and help make Thousand Oaks an even stronger, safer, and more resilient City." 


Nader is a registered Professional Engineer and earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, and a Master of Science in Construction Engineering and Management from Stanford University. Nader officially begins his new role as Public Works Director effective May 10, 2025.
