THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., July 9, 2024 -The City of Thousand Oaks is currently seeking applicants who are interested in serving on the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Advisory Committee.

The SMMCAC's purpose is to advise the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy board. The Conservancy was established by the California State Legislature in 1980. Since that time, it has helped preserve over 75,000 acres of parkland in both wilderness and urban settings and improved more than 114 public recreational facilities throughout Southern California. Additionally, it has given grants to nonprofit organizations for educational and interpretation programs that have served hundreds of thousands of children and other park visitors. The Conservancy consists of nine voting members: three ex-officio members and six legislative members. This policy-making entity for the Conservancy is broadly representative of state, regional, and local interests.

The twenty-six member Advisory Committee (SMMCAC) meets jointly with the Conservancy and offers citizens the opportunity for participation. There are 15 representatives from local governments, of which one appointment is made by the City of Thousand Oaks City Council.

There is currently one (1) scheduled vacancy on the SMMCAC; term to September 2026. City residency is required; must file a Statement of Economic Interests upon appointment and annually thereafter. Applications for the SMMCAC are due no later than August 8, 2024 at 5:00 pm.

For further information on committee functions, please contact Anna Huber, (805) 449-2329 or ahuber@toaks.gov.

Applicants are vetted using a standard review process, and if selected, will be appointed.
