May 2024. This month, Thousand Oaks City Council approved the City’s first Climate and Environmental Action Plan to take steps toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building a resilient future for the community. Residents are now invited to do their part by joining the Thousand Oaks Resiliency Challenge!
What is the Resiliency Challenge?
The Resiliency Challenge provides a platform for residents to find out about actions they can take to reduce their environmental impact and challenge others to do the same. It suggests tangible, eco-friendly actions such as using reusable grocery bags, switching to LED’s, installing efficient irrigation, and using public transit. An online tool allows participants to select from a variety of actions, set their own goals, and track and share their progress. Users can join as individuals, a community group or a business, and set communal or common goals and challenge other individuals or groups.
How it Works
Visit the Thousand Oaks Resiliency Challenge website, create a household profile or group profile, then browse and select from a variety of actions to implement to help reduce your impact. The tool will answer questions and track your progress as you work to meet your goals. You can then challenge and compete with other individual households or community groups.
Participants can choose low-cost (or free) easy-to-implement actions such as adjusting your thermostat, taking shorter showers, riding a bicycle instead of driving, or fixing a faucet leak. Or you can take on bigger, more impactful actions like installing solar panels, buying or leasing an electric vehicle, or installing an electric heat pump water heater.
What’s In It for Me?
Whatever actions you choose, your efforts count – as an individual, a team, and a community – to help create a clean, sustainable, and healthy future for our families and community. The platform is free to use, can save you money and reduce your environmental impact. Get the whole family involved!
It's easy to get started. Create a profile, set goals, track and share your progress, and engage others in your efforts. Click HERE to learn more and join the challenge today!
